Vision & Core Commitments
Vision: By 2030, every SHPS student will thrive - be known, challenged, and supported - growing as community members with a strong sense of belonging and the durable life skills to succeed in whatever path they choose.
Drivers of Success: Inspired Staff + Empowered Students + Aligned Systems
How We Get There
Common Understanding of What Our Strategic Plan is:
The strategic plan is our 3-to-5-year roadmap for district success. Built on extensive community and stakeholder feedback during the 2025–26 school year, this plan turns shared priorities into clear, measurable actions and strategic resource allocation.
Driver Teams
A strategic plan is only as good as the decisions, daily practices, and real experiences it changes for our kids. To ensure this plan leads to meaningful action rather than sitting on a shelf, South Haven Public Schools is stepping away from traditional top-down administrative directives.
Instead, we are driving implementation through Driver Teams, which are cross-functional working groups empowered to research and lead the work of the three drivers of success: Inspired Staff + Empowered Students + Aligned Systems.
How Driver Teams Will Work
Rather than relying on hierarchy, each of our 3 Strategic Drivers is led by a dedicated team of 12 to 15 educators, support staff, and community stakeholders. Supported with protected collaboration time and dedicated stipends, these teams own the roll-out of our strategic commitments year by year.
Driver 1: Inspire Staff with Next-Generation Instructional Framework
Focus Area: Academic & Instructional Excellence
Core Task: Researching and designing curriculum for achieving excellent, rigorous, and engaging learning in every SHPS classroom. This team balances core academic standards with the "Ram's Charge" Learner Profile so students develop durable life skills through authentic, hands-on learning.
Executive Steward: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction
Driver 2: Engage Students & Families
Focus Area: Holistic Support & Belonging
Core Task: Transforming the lived experience of our students by embedding our five engagement commitments: ensuring every student is known, empowered, connected to real-world learning, provided clear belonging and boundaries, and backed by coordinated wraparound supports.
Executive Steward: Director who oversees Student Services & Family Engagement
Driver 3: Align Systems & Operational Support
Focus Area: Infrastructure, Budget, & Communications
Core Task: Reviewing and realigning district assets—from master schedules and professional learning days to budgets, transportation, and public communications—so our operational systems directly support the academic and holistic goals of Drivers 1 and 2.
Executive Steward: Director who oversees Operations & District Communications.
![Governance Structure: Our implementation model relies on collaborative leadership rather than top-down directives[cite: 10, 12].
