Online Learning Update

As we close this first week of school closure due to the COVID-19 virus, I’d like to reach out to our school families and community.

Thank you to our staff, students, parents, and community. This is truly an unprecedented experience for all of us. While there have been hurdles and difficulties, seeing the community come together to support our kids reminds us that “it takes a village,” and ours is pretty great! I appreciate your support and patience as we’ve done our best to support our kids and families both academically and with core needs of nourishment.

Currently, according to guidance issued by the Michigan Department of Education, we may only supply supplemental learning opportunities to students which will not count towards the State mandated clock days and hours. For this reason, all activities, whether online or paper copy, are voluntary and will not be graded.  While this is frustrating to some, I am pleased that we were informed schools will be provided guidance from the Michigan Department of Education in the near future about what we can and cannot do relative to content in an on-line environment.

Additionally, we understand that the situation surrounding COVID-19 is ever-changing and at times, uncertain. We care for the socioemotional and physical health of each of our school families. It is not our intention to create further anxiety and stress for anyone, our staff and myself included, but to maintain a connection and some normalcy for our kids.

A special shoutout to our food service and transportation departments and all of our volunteers for going above and beyond to reach out to kids through our food delivery/curbside pick up program. On each delivery day, approximately 1,000 bags of food are provided to our school families and it wouldn’t be possible without the dedication and commitment of our staff and community members.

Take care, stay safe, and have a great weekend! I will be in touch again soon.  Kevin Schooley Superintendent Spanish Version
