History Club Qualifies for Nationals!
History Club at State Competition 4-27-19

We are proud to announce that the South Haven History Club will be representing the entire state of Michigan for the 10th consecutive year at the national competition!

On April 27, 2019 the South Haven History Club traveled to Bay City High School where they competed against over 501 kids at the state level in a number of different categories.

At the secondary level, only two projects are selected in each category to represent the entire state of Michigan at the national/international competition at the University of Maryland in June. Not only did we have multiple entries place well, but multiple groups received state titles and two exhibits were selected for nationals! Please see the results below.

Best Entry in Naval and Maritime History - Jesse Ford and Maddox Uckele, senior documentary: Final Voyage: the USS Indianapolis.
* sponsored by The Continental Commandery of the Naval Order of the U.S.

First place AND moving on to nationals
- Avery Daugherty, senior individual performance: Nellie Bly; Ahead of her Time, Forgotten in the Papers

First place AND moving on to nationals - Nic Sheppard and Myles Daugherty, senior group exhibit: Triumph Lost in Flames: the Sultana Disaster
*Also selected as the "Best Use of Primary Sources," sponsored by the Michigan Archival Association

At the elementary level, projects are ranked in first through 3rd place.  Our students had a wonderful performance with the following results:

Second place in the Group Youth Documentary category - Jacob Kaczmarek and August Zoet with Failure to Launch: Apollo 1.

First place in the Youth Group Performance Category - Adelynn Beery, London Pirsein, Ruby Peterson, and Kaitlin Moore with Sacajawea's Life of Triumph and Tragedy

We are so incredibly proud of all of our members! They each did an exceptional job and exceeded their personal goals. Congratulations and we cannot wait to root our qualifying members on at nationals!
