2018-19 School Calendar & Interim Superintendent Update
Posted on 08/15/2018

Dear South Haven Public Schools Family,

After much anticipation, I am pleased to share with you the official SHPS 2018-19 School Calendar! As you peruse the days and events listed, you will find that the 2018-19 school year is structured similarly to the 2017-18 school year with the first day for students being held the day after Labor Day (September 4th, 2018) and the last day of school falling in the second week of June (June 12th, 2018).2018-19 School Calendar Final 7-26-18.pdf

Throughout the organization of this years calendar, the district has been proactive in designating several opportunities to make-up time” in the event of inclement weather over the course of the year and has prioritized multiple avenues of professional development for our teachers while maximizing student achievement.

Additionally, to ensure a smooth, efficient start to the school year, the Board of Education recently voted to hire Dave Peden as our new interim superintendent. Dave comes to the district with 29 years of experience, most recently in Mona Shores, Michigan. Since retiring, he has done work for the Michigan Association of School Boards, worked as an interim superintendent, and has assisted with superintendent searches. This vast amount of experience will not only assist the district in maintaining our positive momentum, but will also help us in finding a great permanent superintendent! Dave’s first day in district will be August 27th, 2018 and he is looking forward to introducing himself at our Staff Welcome Back Breakfast later that week.

Id also like to take this opportunity to thank Carey Frost for her dedication and efficiency in serving the district as the internal interim superintendent. Carey has done a phenomenal job leading the district and is truly an asset to our schools and community!

As we grow closer to welcoming students back into our halls and classrooms, I speak for myself and the Board of Education when I say that our district is continually advancing in the areas of personalized learning, innovative programing, and academic excellence. I am confident that we will continue to grow and am eager to see the many ways in which our school community will ascend to new heights this year!

If you have any questions during this time of transition, please feel free to contact our administration building located at 554 Green Street, South Haven, MI 49090 and reachable by phone at (269) 637-0500.

Sincerely,

L
