Lincoln Elementary

1. What is the student drop-off / pick-up procedure?

The student drop-off and pick-up is located on the west side of the building, on Center Street. The drop-off/pick-up lane can be accessed by traveling north on Center Street from Aylworth Ave. Students can be dropped off beginning at 8:40 am. School begins at 9:00 pm. The end of the day dismissal is at 3:50 pm.

2. Where is the visitor parking located?

Lincoln’s visitor parking is located on the east side of the building, between Lincoln and the High School. All visitors need to enter Lincoln School through the front doors on Elkenburg Street. All visitors will report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor's pass.

3. Does Lincoln serve breakfast?

Breakfast is served beginning at 8:40 AM each school day. Students can enter the building at 8:40 and go to the cafeteria for breakfast.

1. What does North Shore collect?

Box Top$, Labels for Education UPC codes, Aunt Millies 'School Spirit UPC Codes', Tyson 'Project A+ 1 2 3 ', old ink cartridges, toner cartridges & old cell phones. Village Market cash tapes (receipts) dated October 1, 2011 through March 31, 2012.

2. What is the student pick-up process at North Shore?

North Shore dismisses at 3:35 daily, and we would like to ask parents to refrain from picking students up prior to dismissal time unless they have an appointment.
To help alleviate traffic back ups in the pick up area and in the parking area, parents are encouraged to join the pick up line rather that coming into the building. Please continue through the line to the west side of the drive to pick students up. This is the only area where the students are allowed to enter vehicles. The first four (4) cars will load students and pull off in order. Please do not exit the drive thru line prematurely, as other cars are exiting the parking area as well. Only with your cooperation can the line flow smoothly and expeditiously. For those parents who elect to wait in the lot for students, please wait outside of your vehicles so that your child(ren) can see you. They may safely cross only with the crossing guard at the designated area. Thank you for your cooperation in assisting our efforts for a timely and safe dismissal for your children.
Reminder: The driveway is 2 lanes with the west side for entering & the south side for exiting. There is no middle lane.

3. What are the morning procedures at North Shore?

Doors open at 7:45 am. for the 'Early Bird' program. Parents must sign students up for this before they can attend.
Breakfast begins at 8:20 am. Students who are not part of the 'Earlt Bird' program or breakfast program should not arrive until 8:30 am. as there is no supervision until that time. Playground opens at 8:30 with adult supervision. All students that do not eat breakfast needs to be on the playground prior to the bell ringing. In case of rain, other arrangements will be made.
If your student arrives later that 3:45 s/he will need to check into the office and obtain a tardy slip before going to class.

Preschool

1. Why are my children singing and playing instead of learning?

Early childhood research has shown that children learn through play. They are exploring new situations and using more language than all the teacher-directed lessons ever could provide. Most of preschool is directed toward enhancing children's experiences. This is done most successfully through songs, finger plays and poems, and directed centers.

2. How can I reinforce at home what my children do in school?

Talk with your children. This will greatly improve language skills and all those important concept words like under, over, between, beside, etc.

The best way to help your children is to provide language-rich environments with lots and lots of reading and playing.

3. I asked my child what he/she did today and he/she said, "Nothing."

Sometimes it is too general of a question to ask, "What did you do today?" If you can, break down their day and ask more specific questions like, "Who was the leader of the day?", "What book did you read today?", and "What did you do at small group?"

Also, the weekly newsletter tries to give specific activities and encourage certain questions that the children should be able to answer. Perhaps they can elaborate once given those hints. Most Recent Newsletter

4. How do you pronounce your last name?

Phonetically, it's pronounced INK-lan, but I'll answer to anything close.

5. What does my child eat for lunch and snack?

A monthly menu of lunches and snacks are provided in the first newsletter of the month. We also have a copy of both hanging on the parent bulletin board just inside the classroom.

6. When can I volunteer in the classroom?

We love to have parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles volunteer. A sign-up sheet will be sent home in October to allow the teacher to make a schedule. You will be given a day once a month, either am, pm, or full-day depending on your preference. If you ever need to change your time, please let the teacher know as soon as you can.

7. When can the children use the bathroom?

We have three scheduled bathroom breaks during the day. If a child needs to go in between those times, a teacher will accompany him/her to the bathroom.

8. What curriculum do you use?

We use a thematic curriculum along with the Letter People and Harcourt Math.

9. What assessments do you use?

We use work samples from the children. We also give the MLPP assessment three times a year and the DIBELS assessment twice a year. We send home a progress report three times a year and conference at least twice a year with parents.

10. Who works in the classroom with my child?

Mrs. Ynclan is the teacher. Mrs. Fran is the teacher helper. Ms. Bree is the student assistant.

1. What operating system do the school computers run?

We use Windows XP along with Office 2003.

2. Does your department accept donations?

Yes & No. We'll accept the donation of a computer, monitor or printer but they have to meet some minimum requirements.

The computer must be fully functional and contain a Pentium 4 or higher processor & a minimum of 256Mg of memory so that it can run Windows XP.

Monitors must be fully functional LCD flat panel displays (CRT or Tube monitors will not be accepted).

Printers must also be fully functional and of the All-In-One scanner / copier printer or Laser printer variety.

Transportation Department

1. Where is the Transportation Department located?

We are located at 554 Green Street in the basement of the Administration Building. You may access our offices by using the entrance located on the southeast side of the building. You may also go through the main Administration Building entrance located on the northeast side of the building. Someone will be able to direct you to our offices.
