Transportation Tips for Parents

What is expected of parents and the use of South Haven Public Schools Transportation?

Parents should be informed and should understand their responsibility in working with the bus driver and the school system for the welfare and safety of their children.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF PARENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  1. Be familiar with and follow the school board policies for school bus transportation.  Please see Policies 8600, 8640, 8651 & 8600:  http://www.neola.com/southhaven-mi/
  2. Have children ready and at the designated pick-up points along the route five minutes prior to scheduled pick-up.
  3. When dropping off a Pre-K or K-3rd grade student after school, the parent, daycare provider or designated person must be present at the stop.  If no one is visible to the driver, an attempt to contact someone will be made.  If the Transportation Department cannot reach someone, then the student will be returned to the bus garage at 554 Green St.  Designated persons should be at the bus stop five minutes prior to the scheduled drop-off time.
  4. Cooperate with the school and bus driver in teaching children safety precautions, how to cross safely, and rules of the bus.
  5. Assist when there are disciplinary problems.
  6. Avoid detaining the driver on the route.  If you need to speak with the driver you may reach them through the Transportation Department.
  7. Avoid contacting drivers to change schedules, route assignments, bus stops, etc.  If a problem arises, please contact the Transportation Department.
  8. Assist the school district in monitoring safe access to students by keeping bus loading and unloading zones free of parked vehicles, trash or debris, and by keeping vegetation trimmed, etc.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Transportation Department at 269-637-0570.
